My name is Krystal Tavernier and I am the Chair of this year’s School Council. I have four children, three daughters in Grades 8, 6 and SK and my son in Grade 2.
I would like to give you an idea about our council and what we do. Generally our meetings are approx. 6 weeks apart and will be posted here for your ease of reference. It’s an opportunity for us as parents to sit down at the table with the Principal, Vice-Principals, Teacher Rep and Student Reps to gain feedback and information on funding, learning opportunities and initiatives and overall gain insight into the school and how it is performing as a whole.
This is a valuable experience and I strongly encourage your participation. Now I can see you thinking “where do I have the time to do this?” There are many ways to contribute to your School Community and Council. Some are as simple as sending me an email about any matters you wish to see discussed or ideas that you may want implemented about something you heard that I can bring forward. Other ways are to volunteer to speak about your career to students, attend some of the council meetings, or even check this council section out and provide some feedback on any emails/announcements that you have an interest in.
At present council is working towards a number of items such as education and training for both parents and students on social media awareness, mental health awareness including anxiety and depression. We are also seeking donations/grants for awards for this year’s high school graduates so if you are interested and would like more information please click on my name to the right and contact me.
Any time to invest in yours and your child’s learning experience is worth it! Just click on my name to the right and I look forward to hearing from you. Let’s look forward to having a great year ahead.
